Howard Hill Wild Boar
A Limited Edition
I've wanted an example of a limited edition Hill for awhile, and the opportunity came to get a Wild Boar. This was a limited run of 50 bows made in 2003. It was shot once. The string never even had a nock put on it! It is 66" and 58#@28. Turns out ot pull 52# at my draw, which is close to a perfect weight for me. I don't know the riser wood. The limbs are four layers of bamboo with a center lam of elm. The tips are snakewood with wild boar tusks. It is in new new condition. The grip is the most slightly modified from straight that Ihave seen. You really almost can't tell whether it was meant to be dished or a locator. It is a very nice grip to shoot. Somehow it fits my hand and lends itself to an awareness of the heel pressure. It has the smoke tanned deer hide grip. Shoots nicely... I'm showing my usual patented group picture... Don't think I can do this as a regular thing... this is very careful shots to test the bow, not me!
Note: A bit of additional information came in from another list member:
>>>Thanks for the pics, Dick.
I'd love to have a "wild boar" with a matching inlay...
Regarding this special edition model and the riser
wood, this is what Craig told me when I asked awhile
ago:
"Hi Jose:
The Wild Boar was made with 4 bamboo lams and one red
elm in the middle. It had black glass; a vera riser;
double overlays of wild boar tusk and snakewood; and
could be finished in either glossy or satin. The wrap
was of smoke tanned deer hide. There were only 50 of
them made.....at least once the last one is finished."
Dick, you're lucky to have one of them!

Noticeable offset or reflex...

Limb marking. Other limb, of course, has "Howard Hill" |
Note laminations... four bamboo with a center lam of elm. Marking reads: "#30 of 50 4 - 16 - 03" There are no markings for bow length or draw weight. You can just barely detect the slight indentation of the back of the grip, essentially a dish somewhat deeper at the top than at the mid-point.
|
offside of riser. Marking reads: "Thomas Andrew 2 - 25 - 02" This was to commemorate the birth of Thomas Andrew Schultze, the original purchaser's first born son. |
Tip is boar's tusk on stinkwood.

And my usual test of a new bow... Can I deliberately put a group in the yellow from my 14 yard spot in the driveway... There are six very careful shots here. No way is this my norm!
