Old Howard Hill Recurve

Good morning Captain:

Attached are some photos of the 1960s Howard Hill recurve that I bought on ebay in early December. The fellow who was selling it found it on ebay in September for a "buy it now" price of $100. A few HH Longbowmen noted its presence there at that time. I of course paid more for it --$227-- but I felt it was worth that amount and it is proving to be a very good shooting bow. It ias 66" amo, with very narrow tips for a recurve. It is very light for a recurve, in fact these last two characteristics should not be surprising given that it was made by longbow builders.

I masked off and painted the back of the bow flat brown for hunting purposes; its original color was off white as shown --in a blurry fashion-- in the manufacturers name photo. That information is on the lower limb belly, by the way. I cut the arrow rest down to my preferred height for shooting off the shelf, and installed a bear hair rest and leather strike plate. The bow appears to like cedar arrows spined 60-65; at my draw length of 29" the pound pull is most likely about 54#.

I forgot to add that the limbs are two lams of bamboo under off white glass front and rear. The riser and tip wedges appear to be shedua or something similar.

NOTE: This is a very interesting and pretty old bow. I believe that at some time during the 50's Ben Pearson was making these for sale under Howard's name. If someone has more info, we could ad it here.
